Contact us for a Division approved Board Member Certification Classes Statewide.  We will address the obligations of the members of the board of directors with respect to maintenance and inspection of official records, dispute resolution including rule enactment and enforcement, election issues, financial operations and more.

If you agreed to serve on your board, you will want to be sure you comply with the State's certification requirements, have the tools and information you need to perform your job well and to avoid any potential liability associated with your new role.

Our Board certification class is designed to equip directors in all types of shared ownership communities with the information they need to make their communities function well. We will discuss statutory requirements, common documentary provisions as well as best practices in the community association industry.

Some of the topics we will cover include:

  • Defining Fiduciary Duty
  • Analyzing Association Operations
  • Explaining how to properly maintain the association’s books and records
  • Understanding the pros and cons of Alternative Dispute Resolution
  • Avoiding Common Election pitfalls
  • Preparing Budgets & Funding Reserves
  • Understanding Financial Reporting Requirements
  • Navigating the quagmire of insurance coverage
  • Defusing conflict

Our class allows both newly-elected directors and board veterans to ask questions and get the answers they need in a comfortable environment.

There is no charge to attend, but seating is limited.  Participants must be registered in advance to reserve a seat.

2016 Legislative and Community Association Resource Guide

CALL's 2016 Legislative and Community Association Resource Guide is now available for viewing and printing. The Guide is applicable to all three (3) types of shared-ownership communities (condominiums, cooperatives, and homeowners’ associations).

Even though the legislative session ended without any significant piece of community association legislation passing, it is important to look back on the 2016 session and the bills that were filed, because it is likely that these issues will continue to be debated in the future. There is also legislation that we will be reviewing that passed during previous sessions, but that are now becoming more important—electronic voting and fire sprinkler retrofitting opt-out.

This year’s Guide will feature the following:

• Update on Electronic Voting and BPBALLOT
• Update on Fire Sprinkler Retrofitting and Opt Out Vote
• 2016 Bills of Interest that Passed and Did Not Pass
• Links to the legislative websites where you can access the final "Enrolled" version of the bills
• Case Summaries 
• "Practical Pointers" for associations to help implement the 2016 legislative changes and get ahead of potential changes in    2017
• A list of recommended "Action Items" for associations after the 2016 legislative session.
